Fanfare for orchestra (2008) was written during the several months between the election and inauguration of the first African American to hold office of President of the United States and celebrates this and includes a quote from the hymn written by Rev. Charles Tindley in 1901 which later became the civil rights anthem, We Shall Overcome. Fanfare was commissioned (2008) and premiered (January, 2009) by the Anchorage Symphony.
