Soloist David Jackson has commissioned and will premiere a new work by Alexandra du Bois, titled Just like moons and like suns (2027) for trombone and piano. The work is a stand-alone work from a triptych of three connected works trombonist and new music champion David Jackson (University of Michigan; Brevard Music Center)  commissioned from three composers. Each composer has been asked to responded to a line of text from poet Maya Angelou’s poem, Still I Rise. David Jackson’s Perseverance Project explores themes of resilience and perseverance. David Jackson previously commissioned du Bois and collaborated with du Bois and photojournalist on their evening length, large-scale, multimedia work, Hope Dies Last in 2015 which was premiered by trombonist David Jackson with Detroit Chamber Winds and Strings.
