SUMMARY:Second Performance of Fjord for solo piano at New York City’s Bargemusic
DESCRIPTION:New York City virtuoso pianist Kathleen Supové will present the world premiere of du Bois’ new solo piano work\, Fjord on 30 August\, 2017 with a second performance on September 1st. Bargemusic is New York City’s only floating concert hall\, and was the place of premiere of du Bois’ trio for clarinet\, cello and piano\, Soleil sur mer\, which was described by the New York Times as “contemplative\, lyrical…evoked gloomy skies with a melancholy cello melody and wistful intertwining of the dark colors of the clarinet and the cello. The musical clouds parted for the brighter mood and jaunty melodies of the second movement\, subtitled’L’Été’ (‘Summer’)\, although there were reflective moments amid the sunshine….composed with the understanding of a painter who knows exactly where her picture will be hung.” Like Soleil sur mer (2007)\, which incorporated barcarolles (Venetian boat songs) Fjord for solo piano (2017) is also inspired by elements of the sea.
